Spouse AssistanceAlong with the assignees successful integration in their new work environment, a smooth integration of the spouse/family in the host country is the most pressing concern for the assignee in transit. Spouses face the toughest challenges of the family, from the lack of social structures in place in the host country to the oft-dramatic change of social status.
ANTICIPATING CHANGE
The most effective way to prepare spouses for change is to present them with an accurate picture of the environment and the issues awaiting them in order to help them project themselves in the future and enable to articulate and diffuse their fear and anxiety. This first step often conducted by a certified coach gives an opportunity to spouses to identify future challenges and start integrating them in their system.
MAPPING OUT THE FUTURE
Once issues and future challenges have been clearly expressed, a practical session ensues. Spouses are given an opportunity to articulate their vision for their time abroad and assisted in developing a ‘business plan’ for their expatriation.
